At the Manor Residence – Photographer D. Stankevičius’s project “Parents and Children”

From August 12 to 19, 2026, the manor will host photographer and artist D. Stankevičius, whose work focuses on people, their experiences, cultural memory, and identity issues.

For many years, D. Stankevičius has been creating photographic cycles in which he explores social and cultural topics that are important to him through a human perspective. The artist’s work balances between documentary photography and video anthropology, and his works have been exhibited in Germany, France, New Zealand, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Hungary, Georgia, and Armenia.

During the residency, the author will implement the photography project “Parents and Children.” This is a cycle of photographs created on medium-format film, in which children and their parents are photographed in one frame. During the photography, the parents hold a linen background in their hands, and the children stand in front of it. This simple photographic action becomes a sensitive study of family ties, generational continuity, and the transmission of cultural identity.

The project continues the tradition of Lithuanian humanistic photography and is inspired by the ideas of visual anthropology nurtured by Balis Buračas. The focus here is not on staging or aesthetic effect, but on the authentic presence of a person, their relationship with their family, environment and time.

The residence in the manor will become a space for creative dialogue, meetings and the creation of a contemporary Lithuanian family portrait. The result of the project is a series of photographs that reveal not only individual stories, but also broader processes of cultural memory and community.

Invitation to participate in the project

During the residency, photographer D. Stankevičius invites families from the local community and surrounding areas to become part of the project “Parents and Children”. Children of all ages are invited to participate together with their parents – each family story will contribute to the creation of a contemporary Lithuanian family portrait.

We will invite all those who are seriously interested in the project and are considering participating to a meeting with the artist (time to be confirmed soon), where he will present the project idea, creative process and answer any questions. This will be a great opportunity to get to know the project concept better before the photoshoot.
